Ethiopian PM announces implementation of major projects
Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said 2019 under the Ethiopian calendar (2026–2027 under the Gregorian calendar) will mark the start of implementing major government projects.
TV BRICS reported his remarks on Thursday. Mr Ahmed presented eight major projects designed to accelerate the country’s development.
They include energy projects such as a nuclear energy development facility, a gas plant, an oil refinery, and a second gas plant; infrastructure projects such as Africa’s largest airport; and a fertiliser production facility.
Mr Ahmed also included plans to build 1.5 million homes nationwide.
The initiatives are planned for implementation within five to six years.
In his address marking the Ethiopian New Year, celebrated on September 11, the prime minister stressed the need to move from statements to practical action and implement planned projects.
He also identified increasing production volumes, improving the economy’s quality, and strengthening Ethiopia’s role on the African continent as key priorities.
