The Etsu Nupe, Yahaya Abubakar, has expressed grief over the death of the Emir of Zuru, Muhammadu Sani-Sami.

In a condolence message on Friday, Mr Abubakar described the death of his colleague as a great loss not only to his family, Zuru emirate, and Kebbi, but to Nigeria as a whole.

The Etsu Nupe, who was on his way to Zuru for the burial of the late emir, described the deceased as a respected traditional ruler who dedicated his reign to the unity, peace, and development of his people.

Mr Abubakar, the chairman of the Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, stated that the emir’s death was not only a loss to Kebbi State but also to the entire traditional institution in Nigeria.

According to him, Mr Sami lived an exemplary life of service, discipline, and humility, which earned him the love and respect of his subjects and fellow traditional rulers.

The Etsu Nupe stated that the late emir was a great patriot and philanthropist, whose long reign led to significant development in the Zuru emirate.

He said the late traditional ruler was also a highly detribalised Nigerian whose wise counsel had bolstered the peace and unity.

According to him, the death of the late emir has created a wide vacuum that will be too difficult to fill.

He also urged the people of the emirate to sustain the legacies of peace, tolerance, and communal harmony which the late emir promoted during his lifetime.
