Etsu Nupe urges Niger residents to register, obtain PVC for 2027 voting

The Etsu Nupe, Yahaya Abubakar, has urged eligible voters in Niger to take advantage of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards ahead of the 2027 elections.
The monarch is the chairman of the Niger Council of Traditional Rulers.
Mr Abubakar made the call during an interview with journalists at the Wadata Palace in Bida, in response to concerns raised by the State Resident Electoral Commissioner about low participation in the CVR, particularly in the Niger South senatorial district.
He noted that the REC had expressed worry during a stakeholders’ meeting in the state about the poor turnout for the registration exercise.
The Etsu Nupe urged all eligible citizens across the state to use the CVR window to obtain their PVCs and enable them to participate in the 2027 elections.
While restating that voter registration was a civic responsibility, the emir encouraged eligible citizens to register to strengthen democratic participation and ensure their voices are heard during elections.
