European Union foreign ministers are set to discuss the latest developments in the Middle East and ongoing support for war-torn Ukraine at a meeting on Tuesday.

Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam will join ministers for talks on the situation in his country at their gathering in Luxembourg.

Top diplomats are also due to address the war in Iran and its wider regional implications, including tensions in the Strait of Hormuz.

Regarding Ukraine, ministers will receive a video briefing from foreign minister Andrii Sybiha on the latest developments along the front lines.

Hopes are high in Brussels and Kyiv that a new package of sanctions on Moscow and a €90 billion ($106 billion) loan for Ukraine can soon be implemented as Kremlin-friendly Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán is set to leave office in May after an election defeat.

Ministers are also expected to discuss how the EU could collaborate with Kyiv on the long-term stability of Ukraine, including support for veterans and de-mining efforts.

On the agenda are also the EU’s contribution to the Armenian-Azerbaijani peace process and the situation in Georgia.
