EURO2020: Italy edge out Austria in extra time

Italy Saturday night narrowly sailed to the quarter final of the EURO2020, defeating Austria 2-1 at Wembley.
Both teams had no goals in the first and second halves.
However, Italy scored twice in the extra time to edge out Austria from the competition.Â
Federico Chiesa, who came in as substitute, netted the first goal of the game for Italy in the 95th minute, while Matteo Pessina doubled Italy’s lead in the 105th minute of the game.
Sasa Kalajdzic’s goal for Austria in the 114th minute could not stop Austria from exiting the competition, but it ended Italy’s 11 clean sheet.
Italy last conceded a goal in October 2020 and have been unbeaten in their last 31 games so far.
Speaking after the match, Italy’s coach, Roberto Mancini, said “We deserved this win. Everyone did well and this victory will do us good. Belgium or Portugal? They’re both extraordinary teams.”
The Azzurri will face the winner between Belgium and Portugal in the quarter finals.
Italy has won all fives matches played so far in the on-going competition.Â
