Evening-class Lagos lawyer nabbed by EFCC over forged NBA seal

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has apprehended a 55-year-old suspected fake lawyer for using a forged Nigerian Bar Association seal in Lagos.
EFCC confirmed this in a statement posted on its X.
The EFCC stated that the suspect was apprehended on Monday, following investigations into allegations of impersonation and forgery.
“The suspect, who operates a legal and educational consultancy in the Ikorodu area of Lagos, came to the attention of the commission after he submitted a petition dated September 22 on behalf of his clients. The petition was against the management of Global West Vessel Specialist Nigeria Limited,” stated the anti-graft agency.
EFCC said that further investigations revealed that both the petition and a subsequent letter of withdrawal dated March 5 carried a forged NBA seal.
The agency said the suspect confessed to obtaining the fake seal from an undisclosed business centre in Lagos.
“During interrogation, he claimed he obtained a law degree from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, in 2018 through evening classes but did not attend the Nigerian Law School, a mandatory requirement for legal practice in Nigeria,” it stated.
According to EFCC, the suspect will be prosecuted upon the conclusion of investigations.
