Ex-NPF star OJ Simpson dies at 76

Orenthal James ‘OJ’ Simpson, a former American football star, who was controversially cleared of murder, has died of cancer.
Simpson’s death was announced by his family on X, formerly Twitter, on Thursday.
“On April 10th, our father, Orenthal James Simpson, succumbed to his battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his children and grandchildren.
“During this time of transition, his family asks that you please respect their wishes for privacy and grace,” the brief from the family read.
Simpson rose to fame as a college footballer in the 1970s before playing in the NPFL.
According to a BBC report, the deceased retired in 1979 to concentrate on a career in film and television.
In 1994, he was arrested as a suspect in the murder of his former wife, Nicole Brown, and a friend, Ron Goldman, in a case that also gripped America.
Goldman was found stabbed to death outside Brown’s home in Los Angeles, and Simpson was an immediate person of interest in the murder case.
He was 76.
