South African police on Monday said Bellarmine Chatunga Mugabe, the son of former Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe, will face charges bordering on attempted murder and thwarting justice.

Gauteng police spokesperson, Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi, said Mr Mugabe and his friend would appear at Alexandra Magistrate’s Court on Monday to face charges of attempted murder.

Mr Mugabe and his friend “will be tried for attempted murder and defeating the ends of justice since the firearm has not been found”, said Ms Nevhuhulwi.

Ms Nevhuhulwi added, “So we are expecting them to appear anytime soon, from now on, once the court proceeding starts, so the docket will be brought to this magistrate’s court. That is correct. They will be facing charges of attempted murder and defeating the ends of justice.”
