Ex-President Robert Mugabe’s son to remain in prison as court adjourns attempted murder case until March
South African police on Monday said Bellarmine Chatunga Mugabe, the son of former Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe, and co-accused Tobias Matonhodze, will remain behind bars for another week, as the court adjourns their case, bordering on attempted murder and thwarting justice, until March 3.
Represented by Mugabe’s family lawyer, Ashley Mugiya, Mr Mugabe and his co-accused, Mr Matonhodze, both appeared at the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court on Monday to face charges of attempted murder.
The court remanded the duo in custody to allow for their bail application. However, state prosecutors opposed the idea of bail for Messrs Mugabe and Matonhodze.
Earlier on Monday, Gauteng police spokesperson, Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi, said Mr Mugabe “will be facing charges of attempted murder and defeating the ends of justice.”
Mr Mugabe and his ally were arrested after his gardener was shotlast week at his residence in Hyde Park in Johannesburg.
