Former U.S. President Donald Trump has told his supporters that he would be “back in some form” following his failed reelection bid.

The controversial U.S. leader, who vacated the presidency on Wednesday afternoon, said at a press briefing that he would remain actively involved in the American politics.

“I’ll always fight for you; I’ll be watching, I’ll be listening,” Mr. Trump assured his  throng of supporters before departing Washington for his home state Florida, ahead of Democrat President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration.

The Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday evening that Mr. Trump, who still enjoys a large support base within the Republican Party, had begun moves to float a new political party.

Sources told the Journal that the billionaire businessman-turned-politician had already intimated his vast retinue of aides and associates on his quest to set up a new party christened the “Patriot Party,” all but clearing paths for a potential presidential bid in 2024.

Mr. Trump’s relationship with the Republican Party’s top brass has severely waned over his alleged incitement of a fatal mob action at the U.S. Capitol on January 6.

Analysts said Mr Trump’s deep pockets would be more than sufficient to float a new political party. It, however, remains uncertain if the ‘Patriot Party’ would be able to garner a massive chunk of public goodwill to rival the two major contemporary political parties in the United States.
