Ex-senator Iyabo Obasanjo congratulates Gov Adeleke on re-election

A former Ogun Central senator, Iyabo Obasanjo, of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has congratulated Osun State governor, Ademola Adeleke, following his re-election for a second term on Saturday.

Ms Obasanjo, in a statement on Sunday, said Mr Adeleke’s victory proves the confidence and trust the people of the state have in his leadership.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Mr Adeleke winner of the poll in the early hours of Sunday, after he defeated his closest rival, Bola Oyebamiji, of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

She said, “I warmly congratulate His Excellency, Senator Ademola Adeleke, on his re-election as the Governor of Osun State.

“This victory is a testament to the confidence and trust the people of Osun State have placed in your leadership and vision. I commend your commitment to the development and progress of the state.

“As you begin another term in office, I pray for God’s wisdom, strength and guidance as you continue to serve the good people of Osun State.

“May your administration achieve even greater milestones and bring more prosperity, peace and development to the state.

“Congratulations, Your Excellency, and best wishes for a successful second term.”

According to results announced by the state INEC returning officer and Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye Ekiti, Joshua Ogunwole, Mr Adeleke won 19 of 30 local government areas, polling 511,067 votes out of 1,010,684 accredited voters.

Mr Oyebamiji, who won 11 LGAs, polled 444,815 votes.
