Ex-Super Eagles midfielder Henry Nwosu dies at 62

A former Super Eagles midfielder, Henry Nwosu, has died.
He was aged 62.
A former Super Eagles player and sports administrator, Segun Odegbami, announced the death of Mr Nwosu, his teammate, in a statement on Saturday.
“Henry Nwosu passes on!” Mr Odegbami said, adding that his former teammate died after five days in the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital.
He stated, “After five days in a hospital battling for his life, the one I call ‘Youngest Millionaire’ passed on at 4:00 am this morning at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, Lagos, where he had been in intensive care since Wednesday.”
Born on June 14, 1963, Mr Nwosu’s made 60 apprarances for the Super Eagles between 1980-19991. He was the youngest member of Super Eagles team that won the 1980 African Nations Cup. He also scored the only goal for Nigeria at the 1980 Olympics.
At club level, aside playing for defunct New Nigeria Bank (NNB) of Benin City and African Continental Bank (ACB) of Lagos, Mr Nwosu played for ASEC Mimosas of Ivory Coast from 1988-1990 and Racing FC Bafoussam of Cameroon from 1990-1992.
Upon his retirement from football, Mr Nwosu ventured into coaching, serving as assistant to Adegboye Onigbinde, who led Super Eagles to 2002 FIFA World Cup in South Korea and Japan.
He also served as assistant coach to Samson Siasia, who led the Nigerian team to the 2008 Beijing Olympics and won the silver medal. In 2013, the late Nwosu was hired in August as coach of Union Bank F.C. He aslo coached Gateway United F.C of Abeokuta.
