Ex-Zamfara deputy governor shot during Kaduna-Abuja train attack

Ibrahim Wakkala, a former Deputy Governor of Zamfara State, was reportedly shot during the Kaduna-Abuja train attack by bandits on Monday.
This was confirmed by one of his aides who spoke with Channels Television on Tuesday. The aide said he was returning from the All Progressive Congress (APC) national convention held in Abuja on Saturday and had boarded the train.
The aide said he was shot during the crossfire between the military and the bandits who attacked the train conveying hundreds of passengers from Abuja to Kaduna between Katari and Rijana in Kaduna state.
APC spokesperson in Zamfara, Yusuf Idris, also confirmed the incident, stating that the former deputy governor was initially abducted by the bandits during the attack.
Mr Idris said he was successfully rescued by the combined forces of the State Security Service operatives and the military.
“He was initially abducted but was rescued by the DSS and military. It was during the process that he sustained gunshot injury in the leg,” Mr Idris said.
