Expect haze across country from Friday, NiMet warns Nigerians

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted three days of hazy weather conditions from Friday to Sunday.

NiMet’s weather outlook released on Thursday in Abuja predicted moderate dust haze with horizontal visibility ranging from 1,000m to 5,000m, and localised visibility of less than 1,000m is expected over the North and North-Central throughout the day.

“The inland cities of the South are expected to be hazy during the forecast period. Hazy skies with few clouds are expected over the Coastal cities of the South throughout the day,” added the agency.

It also forecasted moderate dust haze with horizontal visibility ranging from 1,000m to 5,000m on Saturday with localised visibility of less than 1,000m over North and North-Central throughout the day.

The agency anticipated inland cities of the South to be in moderate dust haze with horizontal visibility ranging from 2,000m to 5,000m during the forecast period.

It envisaged hazy skies with few patches of clouds over coastal cities of the South during the forecast period with chances of few thunderstorms over parts of Lagos, Ogun and Delta later in the day.

“For Sunday, dust haze with horizontal visibility ranging from 2,000m to 5,000m is expected over the North, the North-Central and the inland cities of the South throughout the forecast period,” it disclosed. “Hazy skies with few clouds are expected over the coastal cities of the South with slim prospects of thunderstorms over parts of Lagos, Delta, Bayelsa and Edo throughout the forecast period.”
