FA Cup: Gombe United beat Doma United 3-0

On Saturday, Gombe United Football Club defeated Doma United FC 3-0 to win the 2024 Gombe State Men’s FA Cup competition.
Gombe United defeated their state rival after a penalty shoot-out following a goalless draw after 90 minutes of play at the Pantami Township Stadium, Gombe.
Speaking, Alhaji Kwairanga, Gombe United’s chief coach, said he was fulfilled having worked hard with his team to win the trophy.
“I am so happy and excited as the head coach of the team. This is the first time since 2019 that Gombe United will win a trophy,” he said.
According to him, the win will encourage his team to put in more effort to avoid relegation in the NPFL.
“By God’s grace, with this performance, we will be out of relegation; that I am sure of,” he said.
On how they won the trophy, Kwairanga said he injected some young players to play with some of his experienced ones and tasked them to win the match, “and they did the job.”
The coach said every Gombe United fan deserved to be happy and said, “We will continue to make them happy going forward.”
Bala Abubakar, the newly appointed technical adviser of Doma United, left the stadium immediately after the referee’s blast of the whistle and was unavailable for an interview.
When approached, the chairman of the Gombe State Football Association, Yakubu Sarma, told journalists that the competition was a success given the peaceful manner in which the match ended.
Sarma commended both teams and their fans for the peaceful conduct at the stadium.
Doma United won the competition in 2022 and 2023, defeating Gombe United on both occasions.
