FAAN confirms Abuja airport standoff with Kwam 1 over alcohol flask

Fuji legend Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as Kwam 1, caused a disruption at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on Monday after refusing to surrender a flask believed to contain alcohol, leading to a brief standoff with airport officials and a delayed flight.
According to a statement released from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), chaos unfolded at the domestic terminal of the airport where Kwam 1 was scheduled to board a ValueJet flight to Lagos.
The Aviation Security (AVSEC) personnel pointed out the music veteran for attempting to bring an unidentified liquid substance onboard.
Obiageli Orah, director, public affairs and consumer protection for FAAN, in the statement, said that despite repeated warnings from the security personnel and the flight captain, Kwam 1 allegedly refused to comply with standard screening regulations.
FAAN said the substance in question was in a flask, which the musician insisted on carrying with him.
Tensions escalated when he reportedly spilled the contents on a security officer later confirmed to be alcohol prompting further intervention from flight officials.
In a startling turn, the Fuji star allegedly moved to the front of the aircraft and refused to vacate the area even after boarding had been completed and the aircraft door ordered shut.
AVSEC personnel were forced to intervene, eventually escorting him away for questioning.
He was later released and FAAN has since launched a full investigation and warned that all parties found culpable will be held accountable.
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to passenger and crew safety, warning that no one no matter their status would be allowed to compromise aviation protocols.
The incident, which briefly stalled airport operations, has since sparked widespread conversation online.
