Fagbemi urges accountability in justice delivery

Justice minister Lateef Fagbemi has urged justice sector stakeholders to adopt accountable, responsive and transformative solutions to enhance service delivery.
Mr Fagbemi gave the call in Abuja during the ministry’s retreat. He stressed the need to recalibrate the machinery of justice to achieve maximum impact and service excellence across the nation.
“All hands must be on deck to confront uncomfortable truths such as issues of weak systems and structures, bureaucratic inefficiencies, and gaps in internal coordination and inter-agency collaboration.
“The shortcomings have too often undermined public confidence in our institutions,” stated Mr Fagbemi.
The minister added, “This administration has articulated clear priorities, including good governance, economic transformation, and the strengthening of the rule of law, among others, for effective service delivery.
“Therefore, this retreat is a strategic convergence of minds united by a singular purpose to recalibrate our machinery of justice for maximum impact and service excellence.”
He reminded the leadership of all organisations within the justice sector that they hold the sacred trust, with attendant responsibilities, to ensure that people enjoy the dividends of justice.
“Our citizens expect and deserve a justice system that works efficiently, delivers fairly, and operates with unwavering integrity,’’ he said.
Also speaking, the solicitor-general of the federation, Beatrice Jedi-Agba, commended the ministry for the meticulous preparation of the retreat.
Ms Jedi-Agba said that the goal is to devise a roadmap with fine-tuned mechanisms for practical, measurable steps toward a more efficient system of justice administration.
“The decisions and commitments we make here will define the experience of millions in Nigeria and beyond.
“Therefore, therefore, let us endeavour to do the right thing, remaining fully committed to delivering the transformative results our nation deserves,” she added.
