Family of three docked for allegedly assaulting policeman in Ibadan

The Police have dragged a family, comprising father, Mathew Olabiyi, 50, his wife, Taye Olabiyi and their daughter, Abidemi to an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly assaulting a police officer.
The police charged the defendants on four counts of conspiracy, assault, malicious damage and manner likely to cause breach of peace.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Chief Magistrate Emmanuel Idowu granted the defendants bail in the sum of N50,000 each with two sureties each in like sum and adjourned the matter until November 8 for hearing.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Olusegun Adegboye, told the court that Mr Olabiyi, his wife and daughter allegedly conspired together to commit the offence.
He said that on August 28, at about 9:30 a.m. at Oshodi Street, Felele area, Ibadan, the family allegedly assaulted one Sgt David Ogundeyi by beating him and tearing his Police uniform.
He said the defendants allegedly damaged Mr Ogundeyi’s Techno Pop 3 cell phone valued at N45,000.
Mr Adegboye said the defendants allegedly conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by harassing and embarrassing Sgt. Ogundeyi.
He said the offence contravened the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State 2000.
