Family says Murphy Afolabi to be buried Monday
The family of the late Murphy Afolabi, in Osogbo, Osun, has announced that the Nollywood Yoruba actor would be buried later on Monday.
While speaking with journalists on Monday, Yusuf Lateef, the family head of Fetuata, Afolabi’s family compound in Osogbo, described his death as heartbreaking.
He said the actor’s body was deposited at the morgue and would be buried later on Monday.
“Initially, we were planning to have him buried here, in Osogbo, but his children insisted that he should be buried in Lagos, where he resides with his family,” Mr Lateef revealed, adding that his family in Osogbo “have been meeting and making plans concerning his burial, and we will be sending representatives to Lagos this morning. (today).”
Murufudeen Lawal, Osun governor of the Theater Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN), who was at the Afolabi family compound in Osun on a condolence visit, said the death of the actor was a big loss to the Yoruba film industry.
He commiserated with the actor’s family, friends and fans.
Afolabi, 49, a Yoruba actor, producer and director, was reported to have collapsed and died in his bathroom, in Ikorodu, Lagos, on Sunday morning.
