Farotimi files suit at Lagos court challenging arrest over alleged defamation of Afe Babalola

Human rights lawyer and activist, Dele Farotimi, has filed a suit at the Lagos State High Court against his arrest by operatives of the Ekiti State Police Command.
Mr Farotimi’s counsel, Ralph Nwoke, disclosed this to News Central, while narrating his account on the police invasion of Mr Farotimi’s office on Tuesday.
Mr Nwoke stated.”We’re in court. We’ve filed a fundamental human rights application before the Lagos State High Court. We’re trying to get further information on what happened today,”
Mr Nwoke alleged that the cops made away with phones and other devices of staff members at Mr Farotimi’s office and threatened to shoot those who dared to ask them who they were and where they were taking the activist to.
Mr Farotimi was arrested and driven to Ekiti State for allegedly defaming the character of legal icon, Afe Babalola, in a book he published recently titled, “Nigeria and Its Criminal Justice System.”
He was on Wednesday arraigned at a Magistrates court in Ado-Ekiti, where the presiding magistrate, Abayomi Adeosun, denied him bail and ordered that he be remanded in the correctional centre until December 10 for further hearing, after he pleaded “not guilty” to the 16 charges preferred against him.
