The April edition of the Lagos Boxing Hall of Fame tournament delivered thrilling contests, with Juwon Fatade and Julius Bossinu recording flawless victories to headline the event.

The tournament was held on Sunday at the Agege Stadium in Lagos State.

Fatade opened proceedings in commanding fashion, outclassing Mustapha Yusuf with a unanimous 5–0 win in the men’s 50kg category.

Bossinu followed with equal dominance in the men’s 60kg, overpowering Innocent Prosper to secure another emphatic 5–0 result.

Their performances set the tone for a spirited night, as Opeyemi Lawal impressed with a dominant 5–0 victory over Wahab Ramadan in the men’s 70kg.

Other bouts proved tighter, with Tajudeen Rasheed edging Aliazeem Ogunleye 3–2 in the men’s 60kg.

Idris Ibadiaran also secured a narrow 3–2 win against Makinde Mohamed in the men’s 75kg category.

In the evening’s only female bout, Amirat Oluwatoyin showed resilience, defeating Raheemo Animashaun 3–2 in the 48kg division.

Mohamed Lawal overwhelmed Oluwaseun Olawepo with a 4–0 win in the men’s 80kg.

Faruq Adenle dazzled spectators with a stylish 5–0 victory over Tajudeen Yekini in the men’s 55kg category.

Founded in 2010, the Lagos Boxing Hall of Fame has become Africa’s longest-running amateur boxing tournament.

Conceived by a former Finance Minister, Wale Edun, the initiative aims to develop young boxers through training, exposure and competition.

Sixteen years on, it remains a cornerstone of grassroots boxing development in Nigeria.

Speaking at the 145th edition, Mr Edun expressed pride in the tournament’s consistency and impact.

He said, “This is a conveyor belt, an academy and a proving ground for professional boxing. Every month, these young athletes train hard, live disciplined lives, and showcase their skills. Our commitment is to prepare them to become Olympians who will win gold medals for Nigeria.”

The LBHF Director, David Mohammed, emphasised the importance of consistency and future plans.

“This monthly show continues to deliver on its mandate. We are excited about the upcoming IBILE Championship, which will unite champions from across Lagos divisions,” he said.

With flawless wins and spirited contests across categories, the April edition reaffirmed LBHF’s reputation as a breeding ground for Nigeria’s next generation of boxing stars.
