Operatives of the Delta State police command have arrested one 54-year-old Edward Ngozi Odega, from Issele-Mkpitime in Aniocha North Local Government Area, for allegedly defiling his three daughters, now aged 13, 15, and 24, for the past seven years.

In a post on X on Saturday, command spokesperson, Bright Edafe, said the suspect, who also defiled his children’s schoolmates, was nabbed after one of his daughters opened up during an outreach on enlightenment embarked upon by the Divisional Police Officer of Ogborikoko division, Temi Agbede Zuokumor, in schools within her jurisdiction.

According to a video attached to his post, Mr Edafe said, “Thanks to our wonderful DPO here, she went to schools within her jurisdiction and did an outreach with school children, particularly the female ones, letting them know that they should not be scared, whatever they are going through, they should be free to talk, which eventually paid off.

He said the DPO, during the outreach, advised the children on the importance of letting the public know if they are being defiled, molested or having any other issue, after which, a 13-year-old child, from that day, started crying.

He stated that, “It got to the attention of one of her friends who went to her, ‘how come since the police came to lecture us you’ve been crying?’. That was when she opened up, only for her friend to say, “the day I came to your house, your daddy did the same thing to me, and that’s why I stopped coming to your house.”

“The man here is a 54-year-old who has been defiling three of his daughters. The eldest daughter, who is now 24 years old, this man has been sleeping with her since she was 12 years old. Mind you, he not only took advantage of his children, even some of the children’s friends who came visiting; he forcefully had carnal knowledge of them.”

The eldest daughter, during interrogation, confirmed that her father started defiling her when she was in primary six and aged 12. 

Asked why she never reported it to anyone since then, the 24-year-old said, “I was shy because it was an abomination to say that kind of thing out to people,” adding that her siblings never told her they were also being defiled by their father until after the school outreach.

The second daughter, now 15, said during interrogation that her father started defiling her in June 2025, while the 13-year-old daughter said her father started defiling her when she was in JSS 1. 

The suspect, during interrogation, admitted to his crime.

Stating that the children are still in agony and hoping that the children can get assistance academically, while their father faces justice for his crime, Mr Edafe said the mother, after discovering her husband’s actions, abandoned the children with the “pedophile of a father”.
