Father, daughter die in Kano well

The Kano State Fire Service has confirmed the deaths of Abubakar Abdullahi, 45 years old, and his daughter, Fiddausi Abubakar, 15 years old, after falling into an old dry well.
‎This is contained in a statement by the service’s Public Relations Officer, Saminu Abdullahi, on Wednesday in Kano.
Mr Abdullahi said the incident occurred on Tuesday in Yancibi village in the Tsanyawa Local Government Area of the state.
‎He stated, “We received a distress call from an unknown caller at our fire service station that a father and his daughter had fallen into an old dry well in Yancibi Village.
‎”We immediately deployed our firefighters from the Tsanyawa branch to rescue the victims.”
According to him, due to darkness and challenging conditions at the scene, the rescue operation could not complete the rescue.
“Our emergency rescue team was also deployed from the Kano State Fire Service Headquarters to support the operation.
“Upon arrival, the team successfully brought out both victims from the well unconscious and they were later confirmed dead,” he said.
Mr Abdullahi said preliminary information indicated that the girl accidentally fell into the old dry well and when her father attempted to rescue her; both were unable to exit due to a lack of oxygen.
He further explained that the corpses of the victims were handed over to the Village Head of Yancibi, Shamsu Sani.
‎The state Fire Service extended its heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased and urged the general public to avoid entering wells without proper rescue equipment.
