FBI places $150,000 bounty on fugitive Fahad Mohamed over $5 million COVID-19 fraud

The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has offered the sum of $150,000 as reward for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of a fugitive , Fahad Mohamed.

The FBI made the announcement in a social media post on Wednesday, saying it’s “offering a reward of up to $150,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Fahad Mohamed.”

Mr Mohamed, 41, a naturalised U.S. citizen, is wanted for $5 million fraud scheme in connection with Federal Child Nutrition Program during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Fahad Mohamed is wanted for his alleged participation in a fraud scheme that exploited the Federal Child Nutrition Program during the COVID-19 pandemic. Those involved obtained, misappropriated, and laundered millions of dollars in program funds that were intended as reimbursements for the cost of serving meals to children in need,” the FBI stated. 

The 41-year-old “was the owner of a vendor and purported food supplier who received more than $5 million in fraudulent Federal Child Nutrition Program funds.  He allegedly submitted fictitious invoices for food that was never supplied and obtained and retained program funds through these invoices.”

Since 2022, he has been on run after he was was charged with wire fraud, conspiracy to commit money laundering, and money laundering.

A federal arrest warrant was issued against Mr Mohamed in the United States District Court, District of Minnesota, Minneapolis Minnesota in the same year. He is said to have ties to Somalia and may currently be living there.
