The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) says it has foiled a planned terrorist attack in Michigan, United States of America, arresting multiple suspects accused of plotting to unleash violence over the Halloween weekend.

“This morning, the FBI thwarted a potential terrorist attack and arrested multiple subjects in Michigan who were allegedly plotting a violent attack over Halloween weekend,” FBI Director Kash Patel posted on X (formerly Twitter).

“More details to come,” Mr Patel wrote, adding that “Thanks to the men and women of the FBI and law enforcement everywhere standing guard 24/7 and crushing our mission to defend the homeland.”

Meanwhile, according to Fox News, Mr Patel, in a statement by the FBI, said the agency’s swift response and coordination with local partners prevented what could have been a deadly incident.

“Through swift action and close coordination with our local partners, a potential act of terror was stopped before it could unfold,” Mr Patel said. “The vigilance of this FBI prevented what could have been a tragic attack—and thanks to their dedication, Michigan will have a safe and happy Halloween.”

FBI’s Deputy Director Dan Bongino also hailed the operation, describing it as a model of effective and proactive policing.

“This is what real law enforcement looks like—proactive, relentless, and focused on saving lives,” Mr Bongino said. “Our agents and partners in Michigan acted fast, followed the evidence, and stopped a threat before anyone got hurt. Under the leadership of Director Patel and the watch of the FBI, America is a safer place.”

He also shared a message on X, saying, “Protecting the Homeland is our top priority. We will not rest.”

The development comes 10 months after Shamsud-Din Jabbar plowed a pickup truck into New Year’s Eve celebrants on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, killing 15 people and injuring dozens more.

The FBI said Mr Jabbar, whose vehicle displayed an ISIS flag, had been inspired by the terror group—marking one of the deadliest acts of terrorism in the United States since the September 11, 2001, attacks.
