A group, the Citizen Awareness Against Corruption and Social Vises (CAACASVI), has given the FCT minister a 14-day ultimatum to investigate and correct alleged misgovernance that has characterised the FCTA.

Olumuyiwa Onlede, executive director of CAACASVI, issued the ultimatum at a news conference on Monday in Abuja.

He pointed out that the ultimatum became necessary, especially as it relates to the office of the treasury director in the FCTA.

Mr Onlede said, “The most serious among this issue of maladministration is the office of the Director of Treasury of FCTA that has been vacant for the past six months for no justifiable reasons.

“This is a gross violation of the principle of good corporate governance in FCTA as the permanent secretary is simultaneously performing the function of director of treasury.”

He said this meant that the permanent secretary “approbated and reprobated at the same time with regards to payments.”

He added that in several cases, the FCTA Development Control Department in charge of the demolition of illegal structures had gone ahead to demolish structures even when substantive court orders were restraining such action.

“We want security agencies to take note that we are giving a 14 days ultimatum to the Honorable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr Muhammad Bello, to act on these allegations.

“The minister has to correct these anomalies, especially as it relates to the office of the director of treasury that is currently held by the permanent secretary of FCTA. Failure to act on this will leave us with no other choice than to mobilise other civil society organisations of like minds to picket the office of the minister,’’ he said.
