FG approves N1 billion solar mini-grid project for Dutse university

The Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) has approved a N1 billion solar mini-grid project for the Federal University Dutse (FUD).
Abdullahi Bello, the university’s spokesman, said this in a statement on Wednesday. He said the project was under the Renewed Hope Solarisation Agenda for Alternative Energy, adding that it involved providing and installing a 0.5MW (500 kilowatts) solar mini-grid.
Mr Abdullahi said the project aimed to generate electricity to improve power supply on the university campus.
He said that the project had a three-month completion period and was expected to commence soon.
The director recalled that the commission had recently approved 100 solar streetlights for the university, with 50 of them ready for installation.
He quoted the vice-chancellor, Ahmad Gumel, as commending President Bola Tinubu and the commission for the gesture.
Mr Gumel added that the commission was also ready to partner with the university on renewable energy research.
