The federal government has begun the construction of a N47 billion Jakara–Wuju–Wuju road and sewage project in the Kano metropolis.

The project would traverse the Gwale, Kano Municipal, Dala and Fagge LGA. It is designed to control erosion and boost economic activities when completed.

Yusuf Ata, the housing and urban development deputy minister, said on Tuesday that the federal government took over the project at the request of the Kano  government.

He said the state government had already completed 850 metres of the work, while the federal government would fund the remaining 6.7 kilometres.

Mr Ata said that the Kano government will bear the cost of compensation for the affected properties.

He commended former Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso for initiating the project in 2013 and thanked President Bola Tinubu for approving the funds.

“The initiative is a major intervention that underscores the federal government’s commitment to Kano state,” he said.
