FG disburses N1.5 billion to 10,000 victims of Gombe flood

The federal government has begun the disbursement of intervention funds through the North-East Development Commission (NEDC) to 10,000 victims of the 2024 Gombe flood.
Governor Inuwa Yahaya presented the cheques to the beneficiaries on Thursday in Gombe and said the support was to help the micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) affected by the disaster.
Mr Yahaya listed the beneficiaries for the intervention as members of MSME associations, the physically challenged, widows, and other vulnerable groups.
“Let this support be the foundation upon which you rebuild your businesses and livelihoods.
“This is not just an opportunity to recover but to grow stronger and become more resilient.
“Your success is our collective success, and the progress of your businesses will contribute significantly to the economic growth and stability of our dear state,” he said.
The governor affirmed his commitment to the welfare and prosperity of the people.
He said his administration would continue to work to attract more interventions and implement more policies that support business growth.
Mr Yahaya lauded NEDC for its support and collaboration and the state’s people for their resilience and unity in the face of challenges.
“Together, we will continue to build a Gombe State where every citizen has the chance to live with dignity, security, and hope for a brighter tomorrow,” he said.
The chairman of the Gombe State Village Market Traders’ Association, Uba Abdullahi, commended both the federal and state governments for their support.
Mr Abdullahi said the support would help boost businesses in the state and provide relief to those affected by the flood.
He said a mechanism had been implemented to ensure the funds were not diverted but utilised for the right purpose.
