FG installs solar hybrid grid at FMC Gusau

The federal government has installed a solar power system to enhance electricity supply and medical services at the Federal Medical Centre, Gusau.
The chief medical director, Bello Mohammed, said this in a statement by Naziru Tukur, the facility’s spokesman, on Tuesday in Gusau.
Mr Mohammed said the project was being executed by the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare through the Renewed Hope Solarisation Project.
He said the project was designed with 144 solar panels of 585W; 24 units of solar batteries; a hybrid solar AIO; and a rated output of 2x30kW PV.
Mohammed said the intervention was a major breakthrough in the quest for a reliable power supply at the facility.
He said the project brought smiles to the staff and patients, particularly those in the radiology department, which benefited the most.
Abubakar Musa, head of the Radiology Department, said the department now has a 24-hour power supply, enabling the ultrasound and other equipment to function optimally.
Mr Musa urged the hospital’s management and the ministry to provide additional solar interventions to enable the hospital to run X-ray and CT scan machines.
Also, Aminu Abdullahi, a consultant radiologist, lauded the gesture, adding it provided a conducive environment for clinical and academic presentations.
“The department shall get more of these projects so that other machines can be on the solar system,” he said.
