FG, NES partner on economic policy reform

The federal government is collaborating with the Nigerian Economic Society to promote evidence-based economic policy.
This was disclosed in a statement on Thursday by the finance ministry.
Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, described NES as Nigeria’s intellectual and statistical repository of applied economics.
He said the society’s research and policy advice were crucial for reforms to unlock private investment and accelerate sustainable growth.
The minister reaffirmed support for NES’ upcoming annual conference, noting that stronger policy dialogue would boost market confidence and improve economic outcomes.
Permanent secretary Lydia Jafiya said the society’s work clarifies Nigeria’s economic narrative, aiding investment attraction and sustaining reform momentum.
NES president Adeola Adenikinju said the conference theme is ‘Rethinking Africa’s Development: Pathways Forward’.
Mr Adenikinju noted that leading economists, including Nobel laureate Roy Pearson, would meet in Abuja to discuss inclusive growth, fiscal stability, and innovation.
He added that the event would feature over 200 academic papers and involve 500 economics students, building capacity for future policy leaders.
