FG trains, empowers 165 youths in Edo

The Ministry of Regional Development says no fewer than 165 youths and women have benefited from a skills and empowerment training programme in Edo.
The minister, Abubakar Momoh, said this on Friday during the closing ceremony of the two-day training held at Jattu in Etsako West LGA.
The beneficiaries, drawn from 18 LGAs, were trained in shoemaking and bag production.
Mr Momoh said the 165 participants had completed their training and would be empowered to start their businesses.
“The essence of the vocational training is to equip Nigerian youths and women with sustainable skills, enabling them to become self-reliant and earn a living.
“Certificates, starter packs, and cash will be provided to help them start their businesses,” Mr Momoh said.
Mr Momoh added that the training spanned across the nine states of the Niger Delta region, with the goal of reducing unemployment and curbing restiveness.
“The training affirmed the federal government’s commitment to ensuring the youths are engaged,” he said.
Jerome Adebayo, the consultant at Sam’s Sedi Nig. Ltd., said the beneficiaries were trained in shoe and bag making.
Mr Adebayo urged the beneficiaries to make the most of their new knowledge to achieve self-sufficiency.
