The federal government and UN Women have reaffirmed their commitment to finalising and institutionalising the Nigeria Gender Responsive Planning and Budgeting (GRPB) framework.

They reaffirmed the commitment during a courtesy visit by the UN Women Representative to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Beatrice Eyong, to the Minister of State for Budget and Economic Planning, Doris Uzoka-Anite.

This is contained in a statement by Julie Osagie-Jacobs, director of information and public relations, Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, on Monday in Abuja.

According to the statement, Ms Eyong said the visit provided an opportunity to brief the minister on the progress made in developing the framework and to discuss steps towards its validation and adoption.

She emphasised UN Women’s commitment to supporting the ministry in promoting inclusive planning and budgeting systems for equitable and sustainable national development.

Ms Eyong expressed optimism that the existing partnership would strengthen the implementation of the GRPB framework after its institutionalisation.

In her response, Ms Uzoka-Anite assured the delegation that the ministry would review the draft framework before commencing its validation, finalisation and institutionalisation.

Earlier, the permanent secretary of the ministry, Deborah Odoh, commended the longstanding partnership between UN Women and the Federal Government on gender equality initiatives.

Ms Odoh described UN Women as a strategic partner providing technical expertise and consistent support to advance women’s empowerment and inclusive national development.
