Some parents in the Awka metropolis have hailed the federal government’s decision to make tuition at the Federal Science and Technical Colleges in Nigeria free, saying the policy is a huge relief to them.

They also said that it is a sign that President Bola Tinubu is feeling the pulse of the masses and is interested in enhancing the nation’s future through productivity.

Those who bared their minds in an interview with journalists on Friday said that the policy underscoring science and technical education was a pathway towards advancing the country.

Amaechi Okolo, a mother whose child was admitted to one of the schools, said that the gesture would go a long way in stepping up productivity and reducing the problem of out-of-school syndrome.

According to her, education is a sure way to secure the nation’s future, especially when the policy is well thought out.

Obi Anazodo, who also praised the government for the policy, noted the need for strict monitoring to ensure that school management adheres to the tuition-free directive.

Mr Anazodo said that oftentimes, governments might conceive good policies, but those who implement them end up circumventing such policies.

He used the medium to equally advise beneficiaries of the policy to maintain good conduct while in school and avoid anti-social conduct that could derail the government’s and their parents’ objectives.

Mr. Anazodo also appealed that the admission process be based on merit and seamless to ensure the school produces the best brains that will fit into the government’s target to advance productivity through technical and vocational education.

On her part, Ngozi Nkpume called on the states and local governments across the country to emulate the federal government by introducing policies that will benefit the masses.

The federal government had provided a hotline, “07066739319”, for parents to report any act of exploitation and sundry demands by any of the principals of all the FSTCs nationwide.
