Football’s world governing body FIFA has revoked dozens of 2026 World Cup tickets mistakenly sold to fans free of charge.

It has asked the buyers to repurchase them at normal prices.

According to reports, the incident occurred on Wednesday when tickets for group stage matches in Toronto were made available at no cost for about 60 fans, prompting FIFA to immediately reverse the mistake.

FIFA subsequently confirmed the glitch, while apologising for the inconvenience caused by the incident.

“Fifa can confirm that approximately 60 fans received a communication on Wednesday, 3 June regarding tickets that had been allocated at no charge due to a prior payment issue during the checkout process,” the body said.

FIFA added that it “regrets any inconvenience caused”.

Ticket Talk Network, a social media account which highlights ticketing errors, later posted a letter from FIFA instructing the affected buyers to purchase the tickets at official prices within the next seven days or they would be removed from their account.

FIFA has faced a ticketing nightmare, especially due to widespread complaints about the high cost of tickets to attend the tournament starting on June 11.
