Fire guts baby diaper firm in Anambra

 A fire outbreak at a diaper factory in Nnewichi, Nnewi North Local Government area of Anambra State, on Wednesday destroyed property worth millions of naira.

The Fire Chief, Anambra State Fire Service, Chukwudi Chiketa, made this known in Onitsha.

Mr Chiketa said that the quick intervention of the firemen prevented the fire from spreading to an adjourning gas plant in the vicinity.

He said though some buildings were affected, firefighters were able to contain it from causing further damage to the company that produces baby diapers.

He noted that there was no casualty recorded, adding that the cause of the fire was traced to a suspected explosion from the company.

An eyewitness, Obinna Okoye said the fire which started around 5:30a.m., took neighbourhood by surprise as residents were still fast asleep when the incident occurred.

Mr Okoye lauded the firefighters for their prompt intervention, which he said helped to prevent the fire from spreading to buildings around.
