Fire guts Ilorin building

An electrical spark from a transmission line reportedly triggered a fire that gutted a four-bedroom building in Ilorin, Kwara, on Wednesday.
The incident occurred at 11 Ikotun Lane, Agbadam Housing Estate, Onikanga, Gaa-Akanbi area.
Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, spokesperson for the Kwara State Fire Service, confirmed the incident in a statement on Wednesday.
Mr Adekunle said the agency received a distress call at about 12:18 p.m. reporting that fire had affected a building comprising four-bedroom flats.
He said that, from information gathered at the scene, the fire was preceded by a spark from the transmission line, and it originated from the building’s distribution board.
“The occupants were reportedly not at home when the incident occurred. Neighbours who initially observed the smoke reportedly assumed that it was a refuse fire,” he said.
He noted that when they noticed that the fire was escalating, they promptly alerted the firefighters.
“Despite the delay in the initial call, our firefighters responded swiftly and successfully contained the fire, preventing it from spreading further,” he said.
