Fire incident at KEDCO substation disrupts power supply in Katsina

The Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has announced a fire incident involving a 15 MVA TR3 power transformer at the IBB Way Injection Substation in Katsina.
The incident, which occurred in the late hours of Sunday, left many parts of the state in darkness.
Sani Bala-Sani, the head of corporate communication at KEDCO, who announced this in a statement on Monday, said the cause of the incident was yet to be determined.
“However, KEDCO’s technical team had been deployed to the site to investigate the incident, assess the extent of damage, and commence necessary actions aimed at restoring electricity supply in the shortest possible time.
“As part of safety measures, the affected sections of the substation have been isolated to prevent any risk to lives and property.
“The incident has resulted in a power outage affecting several parts of Katsina metropolis, including Kofar Kaura, GRA, Dandagoro, parts of Kofar Marusa, Janbango, Kano Road, and surrounding areas,” he said.
On behalf of KEDCO, he expressed regret over the inconvenience caused to its customers and reassured the public that safety and prompt restoration of power remain its topmost priorities.
Mr Bala-Sani further explained that updates will be communicated as investigations and restoration efforts progress.
