Fire razes building in Kwara
Fire has destroyed a building comprising three-bedroom flats in Kangile village, Ilorin South Local Government Area of Kwara State.
In a statement on Monday, the state fire service spokesperson, Hassan Hakeem, said they received the distress call in the morning and that the building was destroyed.
“Unfortunately, due to the late notification of the incident, the fire had spread throughout the building before the situation could be brought under control. The incident resulted in extensive damage to the building,” the statement said.
He noted that the cause of the fire had not yet been ascertained but said investigations were ongoing to determine the circumstances.
The chief fire officer, Alabi Muhammed, urged residents to report fire incidents immediately upon discovery, stressing that prompt notification is essential to enabling firefighters to respond swiftly and minimise damage.
Mr Muhammed also advised residents to take fire prevention measures seriously, ensure that electrical installations are properly maintained and remain vigilant against potential fire hazards in their homes.
