Fire razes perfume, wig shops in Onitsha

An early morning fire on Monday razed many perfumes, ladies’ wares, cosmetics and wig shops on Kano street near Onitsha main market in Anambra.
Items and properties worth millions of naira were destroyed in the fire, which reportedly started at about 2:00 a.m.
However, Martin Agbili, the fire service director, said the fire had been contained.
“The situation is under control; the major fire has been controlled. Heavy properties got burnt and lost to the fire incident because of the nature of the commodities being sold in that area, which helped spread the fire faster,” he said.
According to him, the fire was not within the Onitsha main market.
The director said investigations had commenced to determine the cause of the fire.
