Fire razes residential building in Kwara

A fire has razed a residential building in the Asa-Dam area of Ilorin, Kwara State.
Hassan Hakeem, Kwara State Fire Service spokesman, said in a statement on Thursday that the incident occurred around 4:00 p.m. and affected three bedrooms.
“The incident involved a building comprising three (3) bedroom flats and a room-and-parlour self-contained apartment. The fire affected three bedrooms,” Mr Hakeem stated.
He noted that the inferno had already gained ground before the firefighters arrived.
“However, through their prompt and professional intervention, the firefighters successfully contained the inferno and saved the adjoining block of room-and-parlour self-contained apartments from being consumed by the fire,” he added.
Mr Hakeem further said a preliminary investigation suggested the fire was caused by a power surge that ignited combustible materials in the affected section of the building.
The state’s chief fire officer, Alabi Muhammed, advised residents to ensure qualified personnel properly inspect and maintain their electrical installations.
Mr Muhammed urged members of the public to contact the service immediately in the event of a fire, stressing the need for early notification.
