Five arrested for stealing N100 million mobile phones, accessories in Ogun
The police have arrested five suspects for their alleged involvement in robbing a mobile phone and accessories dealer in Ogun State.
Ani Iniedu, the spokesman for the Nigeria Police Force, said in a statement on Saturday that the police, through its Special Tactical Squad, arrested the suspects after the investigation began on August 10.
He said the arrest followed a petition from Sanniphil Company to the Inspector-General of Police over a violent robbery involving its consignment of mobile phones and accessories.
“Acting on the petition, STS operatives commenced a discreet investigation on 10th August 2026, which led to the arrest of the suspects in Ogun State,” Mr Iniedu said.
He said preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects attacked a company vehicle conveying phones and accessories valued at about N100 million from Lagos to Onitsha and carted away the items.
The suspects are: Okori Joyus, 23; Yetunde Lasisi, 53; Usen Samuel, 20; Usen Wisdom, 25; and Quadri Oluwadare, 56.
“A total of 81 brand-new smart mobile phones and 196 chargers were recovered from the suspects as exhibits,” Mr Iniedu said.
He added that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the gang and recover the remaining stolen property.
