Five farmers die as boat capsizes in Niger

At least five people reportedly drowned when a boat carrying them capsized on Saturday in River Kudi, Katcha Local Government Area of Niger State.
Hussaini Ibrahim, the spokesman for the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) confirmed the incident to the Peoples Gazette on Monday.
He said the incident occurred on Saturday and the victims were from Shaba-Woshi village.
“They came down to the Katcha community and boarded the canoe as they were going to their farm and pass through river Kudi,” he told the Gazette.
He added that the victims were one female and four men.
The victims were identified as Yahaya Abubakar, Usman Abubakar, Lami Hussaini, Baba Ahmadu and Salihu Aliyu.
When asked about the cause of the accident, Mr Ibrahim said the agency could not confirm the cause.
