Five soldiers have been reportedly killed and others injured as a suicide bomber rammed into a military convoy in Timbuktu triangle in Borno State.

The attack occurred when the troops were returning from a clearance operation that successfully dislodged several insurgents camps and killed many of them.

Daily Trust reported that two senior military officers, a major and a lieutenant, were affected in the attack.

It was also reported that the attack caused significant damage to military equipment used for offensive and defensive operations in the weeks-long clearance operations.

Reports further indicated that the injured were receiving medical attention.

The army spokesperson, Appolonia Anele, promised to get back with details when contacted by our correspondent on Wednesday.

The development came weeks after terrorists kidnapped and killed Brigadier General Musa Uba in the same area, drawing widespread condemnation from Nigerians.

Meanwhile, the troops of the Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) said they had cleared multiple terrorist camps and thwarted drone attacks in the area and neighbouring states.
