President Muhammadu Buhari and his vice, Professor Yemi Osibanjo on Saturday took the AstraZeneca vaccine.

The event was captured live in a televised broadcast.

Presidential spokesperson, Garba Shehu had earlier disclosed to Peoples Gazette plans underway for President and his vice to receive the Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine jabs.

On Friday, the country organized an elaborate ceremony, launching the arrival of the vaccines, ignoring the economic meltdown caused by the COVID-19.

The Gazette reported the lavish event violates the COVID-19 protocols of social distancing except for some seats reserved for dignitaries.

Frontline health workers on Friday received the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines at the event held at the National Hospital, Abuja. They were the first set of Nigerians to receive jabs.

Nigeria on Tuesday received 3.94 million vaccines AstraZeneca/Oxford vaccine, manufactured by the Serum Institute of India (SII) and shipped via the COVAX Facility, Peoples Gazette reported.

The Gazette learnt the COVAX is co-led by Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, the World Health Organization (WHO), and the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI), working in partnership with UNICEF, the World Bank, civil society organizations, manufacturers, and others.

Some African presidents, like Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa and Nana Akufo-Addo of Ghana had since received their vaccine jabs.
