FLASH: Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk signs new contract

Netherlands defender Virgil van Dijk has signed a new contract with Liverpool Football Club.
Van Dijk’s new contract will see him stay at Anfield until 2025, Liverpool announced in a statement on their website on Friday.
“It has been going well; unfortunately last season for me personally has been a season to forget, to learn from and take with me, but I have enjoyed my time here and will keep enjoying it in the next couple of years altogether with all of you,” Van Dijik said in the statement.
Van Dijk, 30, first joined Liverpool from Southampton in 2018. Since then he has made 130 appearances for Liverpool, netting 13 goals and winning the English Premier League title and UEFA Champions League with Liverpool.
In 2019, van Dijk was runner up behind superstar Lionel Messi for Ballon d’Or and The Best FIFA Men’s Player. In the same year, he was voted the PFA Players’ Player of the Year, UEFA Men’s Player of the Year and UEFA Defender of the Season.
Van Dijk will lead Liverpool’s defence in their first game of the 2021/2020 EPL campaign against Norwich City on Saturday.
