Flood: NEMA distributes relief materials to 198 households in Kano
No fewer than 198 households affected by the 2024 flood disaster in Kano Municipal Federal Constituency received relief materials from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), an official said.
Nura Abdullahi, NEMA coordinator, Kano Territorial Office, made the disclosure while flagging-off the distribution exercise in Kano on Sunday.
He said the gesture was part of the federal government’s interventions, adding that the relief materials were not meant to compensate the victims but a measure to alleviate their suffering and help them recover from the devastation.
According to Mr Abdullahi, the benefiting areas include; Kankarofi, Yakasai, Dan’agundi,Shahuchi, Tudun Nupawa and eight other communities affected within the Kano Municipal Federal Constituency.
The coordinator listed the food items to include; 381 bags of 25kg rice, 381 bags of 25kg maize, 381 cartons of spaghetti, 38 cartons of vegetable oil, 30 cartons of seasoning cubes and 35 cartons of 3-in-1 beverages.
Others were; 150 bags of 50kg cement, 150 bundles of roofing sheets, 300 pieces of ceiling boards, 50 packets of zinc nails and 25 bags of 3 inches nails.
Responding, Sagiru Koki, member representing Kano municipal federal constituency, commended NEMA for the gesture.
Mr Koki, who was represented by the Speaker, Kano Municipal Legislative Council, Yahaya Abdullahi-Maiduniya, urged the beneficiaries to use the items judiciously.
Speaking on behalf of other beneficiaries, Muhammad Umar, commended NEMA for the gesture and promised to make judicious use of the items.
