Tajudeen Abbas, Speaker of the House of Representatives, has lauded President Bola Tinubu for granting all requests made by lawmakers, claiming that food and prosperity are pouring in for poor Nigerians under Mr Tinubu’s government.

The speaker made this statement when he was hosted alongside other government officials at Mr Tinubu’s Ikoyi residence on Wednesday.

”This is historic. This is commendable. We need to thank you for that. I also want to thank you for bringing more succour to the poor,” Mr Abbas said.

”Nigerians had more challenges at the beginning of 2023, but as the year ended, more food and prosperity started pouring in. We believe 2025 will be the ultimate year where every Nigerian will be proud of this administration.”

Mr Abbas also appreciated Mr Tinubu, claiming his government has brought succour to poor Nigerians.

”The National Assembly should consider itself lucky, and to God be the glory, Mr President, the National Assembly today is more united than ever,” Mr Abbas said. ”The National Assembly is more fulfilled than ever before because there is nothing we have ever knocked on your door to request for the National Assembly that you have not obliged.”

Mr Abbas’s commendation of Mr Tinubu’s government comes amid unprecedented inflation and a cost-of-living crisis ravaging the country.

With inflation hitting over 34 per cent, Nigerians have lamented economic hardship since Mr Tinubu assumed office, taking to the streets in nationwide protests in August 2024.

Three fatal stampedes claimed over 70 lives at rice-sharing venues in Ibadan, Anambra, and Abuja as hunger ravages the country under Mr Tinubu’s watch.

Opposition figure Peter Obi of the Labour Party attributed the waves of stampedes to severe hunger, forcing Nigerians to risk their lives in search of food under Mr Tinubu’s administration.
