Forbes names Kylian Mbappe world’s highest-earning footballer
Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe has been named by Forbes as the highest paid footballer in the world, putting an end to almost a decade of dominance between the duo of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
Mbappe signed a mouthwatering three-year contract, with a wage of $1.15 million per week and a lucrative $128 million signing-on fee.
Forbes estimates that the 23-year-old forward will bank around $128 million this season, displacing Ronaldo and Messi, who hitherto rotated the position between each other.
Messi is expected to follow Mbappe and cash out $120 million to earn the second position, while Ronaldo will earn $100 million to occupy the third spot.
Another PSG player on the list is Neymar, who is expected to earn $87 million, while the only African on the Top 10, Mohamed Salah, will earn $53 million to complete the top five.
Manchester City forward Erling Haaland, Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski, Real Madrid midfielder Eden Hazard, Vissel Kobe midfielder Andres Iniesta and Manchester City midfielder Kevin de Bruyne will complete the Top 10 list.
They are expected to earn $39 million, $35 million, $31 million, $30 million and $29 million respectively this season.
