Former Bank of Beijing chairman Yan Bingzhu faces corruption probe

A former chairman of the state-owned Bank of Beijing China, Yan Bingzhu, is reportedly under investigation for corruption and suspicion of bribery.
Until his retirement in 2017, Mr Bingzhu had headed the affairs of the bank since its establishment in 1996.
His probe is one of several high-ranking officials being investigated for “seriously violating discipline and the law” as part of President Xi Jinping’s decade-long anti-corruption campaign, which opponents claim was used to oust his political enemies.
This was contained in a report published by Voice of Nigeria, citing a notice published on the city of Beijing’s official website Sunday.
Although the specifics of Mr Bingzhu’s alleged offence are unknown, the official hasn’t been seen in public in over six months. Additionally, the ex-bank official has yet to respond formally to the situation.
In January, Mr Xi promised to tighten the crackdown on wrongdoing in the finance, energy, and infrastructure sectors, a move that some fear could impede the country’s economic recovery.
